I've set this page up to help out Min & Paul because people are been asking "is there anything I can do?" To Ease any financial burden too.
Canterbury
Min and Paul Whistler sold up in Ngatea and took off on their South Island adventure about 11 months ago - to travel around in their caravan and see our beautiful country.
Then on 03 April 2018 Min was taken to Kaikoura Hospital with suspected food poisoning.
From here she was rushed in the rescue helicopter to Christchurch Hospital because they thought her condition was worsening. While in Christchurch Hospital she was then admitted into the Intensive Care unit due to her being seriously ill and her kidneys began to fail.
Then the news got even worse and more serious - Min had gone from a serious condition into a critical condition and put into an induced coma due to organ failure. They now think it's ecoli. Min has been on dialysis since going into ICU and has many tubes coming out and going into her to help to keep her alive. It has been touch and go.
All of her kids flew down (from the North Island) as well as her sister and a couple of close friends not knowing what they were going to be greeted with and were told by medical staff to get there as quick as possible as they didn't know what the outcome would be but it wasn't looking good.
And of course to support Paul at this difficult time.
So this was just over a week ago and it has been a very scary and emotional time for all family members, friends and people who know and care about Min.
We still don't know what the future holds and will just have to take it day by day but we want to have Min with us. We all love her very much - she is a very special lady, Wife, Mum, Sister, Gran, Aunty, Friend and we just want her around.
We would like to thank all the amazing medical staff for all they have done for Min at this time. They have all been a great support to the family. They are compassionate and caring and are so understanding and helpful - so we thank them very much for that.
Min and Paul are my Mother and Father in-law whom I love very much and thought this is a little something we can do to help them out in this time of need.
Funds will be used for anything that will make life a little easier in this time of need.
Thank you so much from Min & Paul 25 June 2018
This is Min's personal Update that she sent to me to pass on to everyone:
I am recovering well from what can only be described as an agonising and traumatising event for my family in particular.
I can now walk with a stick and even get around the caravan unaided - feels so good! Paul is getting on with his usual caravan activities but still shows wonderful care for me as I get very tired and have frequent dizzy spells. He is so grateful to his family for their help, care and love over the period I was in ICU and also for the many calls of support from friends. He could not have managed without the incredible support from all.
As for me, I am humbled by the love and support of everyone - humbled and enormously grateful! I am so fortunate to have the family I've got and wonderful friends. Thank you everyone from the bottom of our hearts.
God bless you all
Min and Paul Whistler
