Moana-Rose's Intensive Therapy and Rehab Post Spinal Surgery (NAPA)

We are raising money to enable Moana-Rose to attend a 3 week NAPA intensive, https://napacentre.com.au/our-programs/intensive-therapy/, a highly regarded therapy program, to help her rehabilitation and maximise benefits of her recent spinal surgery.

Moana-Rose is a delightful four year old girl who lives with complex medical issues related to Spina bifida, epilepsy and allergies. Becs, her mother remarkably had fetal surgery when 24 months pregnant. This surgery has meant that Moana-Rose has been able to walk and has not required a shunt for hydrocephalus, when the prognosis for these areas was poor. Moana-Rose requires a very high level of medical care and supervision.

Moana-Rose had spinal surgery in April, to remove a cyst and de-tether her spinal cord which was causing a loss of function. Her Neurosurgeon recommends that an intensive physiotherapy programme including bladder retraining will significantly increase the surgery outcomes. This has not been available to Moana-Rose publicly.

"...it would be vital that she be linked with a local physiotherapist for balance and gait-based exercises as well as bladder retraining. As you are aware, operation was done to prevent any clinical deterioration. However any clinical improvement would plateau in 6-12 months and therefore any assistance she can be provided with in terms of rehabilitation would significantly benefit her in the long-term" (Neurosurgeon).
