    Hola

If I am not able to post the update slideshow here on this Give a Little page (after the page closes). I will upload it as an update to the following Give a Little page that our lovely friend Sue Petrie has set up for Moana-Rose, to assist with accessing recommended therapeutic supports and equipment to help Moana-Rose make magic!

    https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/magic-making-for-moana-rose

Check out this page also for details on a fun fundraising event that some local good people at SWEAT Birchwood, are organising - a 5 km fun run, bike, scooter as a fundraiser for Moana-Rose.

    Hi there

It's taken me a while to get a chance for this yet I have been wanting to do this much sooner. Yet I have now managed to start putting together a mini slide show to capture some of our moments at NAPA to share with anyone interested and those who have helped support us to get to the NAPA intensive therapy.

I am hoping to get this finished and loaded onto this page tonight and before this page closes. However in case I don't manage it before the page closes, and if you are interested in this update / mini slide show - check back to this page in the next few days and I will work on adding it to this page as soon as I finish it.

Even though this Give a Little page will close tonight it will still be able to be searched for and opened after it closes and updates accessed (I think!)

Thanks so much for everything that you have all done to help make this NAPA intensive for Moana-Rose's Spinal surgery rehab possible. It was hugely valuable and the team at NAPA has set us up well for home programs and with guidance and recommendations for 'whats next' with therapy and equipment and how we can incorporate areas of these therapies into our daily routines and activities.

Moana-Rose is moving around so much stronger and in more balance than pre NAPA, and with more confidence and independence. Getting up from the floor independently, moving up and down steps with less assistance. Along with lots of other gains, we also have some helpful new tools to help with some of the areas which have been causing Moana-Rose a fair bit of stress and distress - tools to help her self regulate emotions and problem solve tricky situations, to help her develop her flexible thinking skills, follow a group plan and strengthen other social skills to help with social situations.

We also have made progress with bowel and bladder retraining and have a plan moving forward to help assist further in this area.

NAPA intensive therapy was hugely valuable for Moana-Rose, particularly with her post spinal surgery rehabilitation and will have long term benefits for our family.

We are very grateful for the kindness and support from so many good people, to help us get to NAPA in Melbourne and also to those there at NAPA for making it such a positive and valuable time for Moana-Rose and I.

Ngā mihi nui, thank you all so much.

    Moana-Rose and Becs

Here is a glimpse of some of what we got up to on the first few days here at NAPA. Lots of initial assessments, then into pulling, pushing, balancing, squatting, and learning some new moves 'The Froggie' and 'The Flamingo" some new techniques to help Moana-Rose move from the floor to standing independently. Something which she has been needing someone or something to use for a support. Being able to do this without a person or prop will be a great help for Moana-Rose moving about more independently.

I have been hoping to send an update sooner, yet it's been big busy days for us, so this is a quick update to say a huge thanks to you all. I will update soon with some more photos and stories of what we have been getting up to here.

  • A Month To Go

It is only a month and Moana Rose and Becs will be in Melbourne for the 3 week NAPA course - exciting. Time is passing.

It has been so heart warming to have the support of you all and to be reminded of how caring community can be. We have been touched by different shows of support on this journey and want to again thank you for your part. It is such a collective effort and this makes the journey special in so many ways. I have a sense of Moana Rose's well-being being held by many. It lightens the 'load'.

    Some shout outs:

    - Aunty Rose is continuing to Dunk Under for September and there has been some lovely support from SwimWaipa staff and swimmers in promoting and supporting this. Thanks Rose and all.

    - There will be a special fund raising effort at the Matangi Bus Cafe later this week thanks to Jenny who is keen to help our Matangi wee local.

    - Look out for Sweat for Moana Rose at a local gym

    - Aunty Ang, you are being an angel

    - And a generous donation of books from a local woman who has wanted to show her support for Moana Rose in a way that she can.

If there are initiatives / fundraising opportunities that you are aware of or want to undertake to help out feel free to contact me. I am happy to support as I can. And feel free to share the Give a Little link to your networks.

    With gratitude and love.

    Sue

Thank you all so much for your generous support. It has been so amazing to have the support of friends, family and community with this goal. We are so grateful for all of the kindness and generosity which is helping make this a reality for Moana-Rose to get to this 3 week NAPA intensive therapy. Thank you very much to all of you.

There has been awesome things going on around us in support of our goal, including...

Aunty Rose is dunking into the cold water for all of September as a fundraising challenge in support of Moana-Rose. Thanks lots Aunty Rose - and all of your team supporting you.

On Sunday 21st August Moana-Rose and I set off on a morning bike ride adventure. Friends, family and community joined us in support. New friends were made.. leading to Moana-Rose's first play date...a pretty cool thing to come from connecting with our community through this goal. Thanks so much to all of those involved who supported us on our fun bike / walk/ run /roll to raise awareness and funds for this goal.

Friends and whanau and friends of friends from all around the globe have connected and supported and shared our project which has felt humbling - thank you lovely people for being part of our journey.

Our local swim school has also whole heartily stepped behind us and offered to support in many ways including sharing our fund raising appeal with the wider community of swimming families - thank you so much Roger and your team at Swim Waipa for your support with this.

Moana-Rose has ventured to new places and met new people as part of this process which has been great for both of us as we meet more of our local community.

I have paid the NAPA deposit and booked flights... we are very excited... this will be such a great help to our family for Moana-Rose to get this therapy.

Other exciting things for us, Moana-Rose has just completed her first unsedated MRI, for a post surgery check up - no General anaesthetic, no sedation. She was motivated not to wear the mask. One hour lying still like a Tuatara, in the MRI machine, I sure was impressed! She is one tough and determined girl.

Again, thank you all for your aroha and support, we are so grateful for your help to make this intensive therapy possible.

    Ngā mihi nui

    Becs and Moana-Rose
