For the Love and Life of Mollie the Op Shop Dog.
Whanganui, Manawatu-Wanganui
My 7 year old Heading Dog mix Mollie has been diagnosed with mast cell cancer. We originally adopted Mollie as an 8 week old pup through the Retired Working Dog Adoption group. Mollie is undergoing surgery today, Tuesday 23 April to remove multiple cancerous skin tumours before they grow and metastasize. Mollie is not only my best mate. She is loved by many. After my late husband (and Mollie's best friend) died 20 months ago she transferred her loyalty and love to me. She has been my mainstay ever since. I started taking her to work with me rather than leave her home alone She took to her new job like a duck to water and is now a much valued member of staff. She lives to go to work. Mollie is the chief customer greeter, entertainer and staff room snack supervisor at the Zest for Mission charity shop in Wanganui. She brings joy, fun, comfort, calm, a listening ear or her ball to our wonderful customers and staff. People often visit the shop just to see her, cuddle her, play with her or sit quietly with her paw on their lap. Mollie adores everyone, young or old. She is bomb proof around children and seems to read the mood of everyone she meets knowing just what they might need to brighten their day. Mollie's surgery at SRVS in Bulls will cost around $2000.00. I just want to give her the best chance of survival, not just for me but for everyone whose days are made just a little better because of her. I appreciate anyone taking the time to read Mollie's story. Thank you.
Any money donated will be used to pay for Mollie's surgery and associated veterinary costs.
Mollie the Fighter 26 April 2024
Mollie had her surgery this week on Tuesday 23rd, April. It was a very long procedure but she is recovering far better than I could ever hoped for. She stayed overnight after the surgery. I brought her home yesterday. The first thing she did was eat the cats food and bring me her ball. Next to people and food her ball is her life. She has a huge collection and knows many of them by individually. If I ask for her big red ball she will bring back that ball. I missed her so much that night. Four mast cell tumours were removed with wide margins taken. Her wonderful vet at Southern Rangitikei Vets in Bulls seemed positive but only time will tell. Now we wait for the biopsy result which will determine the grade of Mollie's cancer. Grade 1 is the most desirable and would mean Mollie could live a normal life span. Today Mollie had the drain removed from the biggest incision. She is feeling much happier. She will return tomorrow week for the stitches to be removed of which there are numerous. Mollie is missing going to work and seeing all her many friends.
