Bridgette’s Kidney transplant

$740 donated
Given by 18 generous donors in 3 years

Wanting help and support after my kidney transplant recovery which will be 6 weeks in Auckland away from home.

Bay of Plenty

Please help save my life.

I am a 50yr old Mum from Mt Maunganui Tauranga needing a Kidney Transplant. I have IGA Nethropoathy end stage renal disease and total kidney failure with no function at all. I had kidney failure after having prescribed voltaren anti flams after horse riding accident , then I got strep throat infection which damaged my kidneys. Then while I was pregnant with my twins In 2007 I went into renal failure, lucky my miracle babies survived with no problems dispite the odds. Medical Doctors all advised me to terminate my pregnancy which I refused.

I have been on Dialyisis for 11 years which seems like a life sentence or imprisionment of some kind, the machine filters & cleans my blood which I am greatful of, without it I would of died before my babies were born and never had the chance to watch them grow. It takes 5 hours every 2 days so 15 hours per week to keep me alive. I also had a heart valve replacement 3 years ago after getting a infection. Living on Dialyisis is very restrictive, strick low salt & low potassium foods (fruit & seafood which I love, fluid restrictions, (Have to drink less than 1 litre of fluid a day which is extremly hard in summer!) no travel overseas or holidays, and pain every time the needles are inserted. I often miss school events and sports as I’m at hospital 3 mornings a week. Suffer with nausea, tiredness, extremely high blood pressure of upto 230/130!

I am a positive person with zest for life, I work hard to provide for my children and to make sure their needs are met and support them with their sports and extra activities even though it is not easy with my condition.

I have just been accepted onto The Kidney Transplant list and are awaiting for a organ donor to come available.

The operation will take place in Auckland and will require 6 weeks recovery away from home.

The donations will help fund a caregiver and support person during that time, as I will require 24hour support and someone to drive me to my daily early morning blood tests, childcare for my children, towards motel accomodation for myself and family, meals, and loss of income.

Just waiting for the call to get the gift of life, A donated kidney, so I can finally live a normal healthy life and be the best Mum I can be to my children.

Every little donation is appreciated, even just $2 helps, it all adds up.

Many thanks :-)

Use of funds

Funds will be used for 6 weeks loss of income, motel accomodation for myself & family when they come up for weekends, travel costs, meals, caregiver, support persons, childcare, animal care for my pets, (dog and rabbit). any extra will go towards my children’s education and maybe a family holiday which we haven’t been able to ever do due to health

Latest update

I am still waiting :-(  9 December 2020

I am on the deceased donor list , so could get the call anytime, was so disappointing I had the flu the last time I got the call so it could not go ahead and have the operation. Let’s hope I’ll get another call soon .

In the meantime I have a bank account especially for funds for my transplant so money to help with my costs and food expenses while i will be away from home for 6 weeks.

Thank you for your help, every cent matters. :-)

Bridgette, having met you and hearing your story puts life in perspective and how much we take it for granted. I am blown away with your tenacity and how you just get on with life taking matters into own hands - you are an amazing woman.

Thanks for understanding. Looks can be deceiving as I try to take care of myself therefore don’t look sick on the outside but enernally I am. I do what I can for my children and family, to be there for them and they keep busy so no time to dwell on the negative. Thanks again :-)
