Mr Ginger needs life-saving treatment to stop & reverse his immune system from attacking red blood cells, and possibly for hyperthyroidism.
Manawatu / Whanganui
*UPDATE* 23/11 - Mr Ginger has unfortunately not responded to medication after a full week at the vet. His body has become more anaemic (still losing red blood cells). The vet has given me a choice between euthanasia or referring him to the vet hospital at Massey University in Palmerston North, so I am going with the university option. It means the cost is going to be well above the original $1500 I estimated, so please, share this Givealittle page with your friends, and thank you so much to all those people who have donated for Mr Ginger, it is so very much appreciated.

Mr Ginger, a rescue cat I took in almost six years ago, needs life-saving treatment at the vet. I look after a number of rescue cats, and whilst I do my best to feed and care for them, including basic vet treatments, I really need assistance with major health ailments such as what afflicts Mr Ginger right now.
Mr Ginger's immune system is attacking his red blood cells, leading to his body wasting away rapidly. His weight has reduced from his normal 4-5 to 5.0kg, down to just 2.8kg.
His thyroid is also enlarged, and in addition to treatment for his immune system problem, he may need to go to Palmerston North or Hamilton for radiation treatment of his thyroid.
He has been at VetEnt in Taumarunui since Thursday 15th November 2018, on a 24-hour IV drip, anti-biotics, steroids, appetitie booster and pain relief.
He is such an amazing cat, having turned from a wild stray to a very friendly and happy house cat. He is about 10 years old, and I'm really hoping caring people will help extend his life.
His health issues are significant, but treatable and reversible with the right help.
Please consider helping him. Thank you.
Vet treatment.

Hi everyone,
Sadly, Mr Ginger passed away at 3:22pm this afternoon.
He returned to the vet's yesterday and went back on an IV drip, after experiencing a bad vomiting on Sunday night. Preparations also got underway to proceed with a blood transfusion which I decided to proceed with.
I went to the vet this afternoon about 3:10pm for an update, and if he was well enough he was going to come home for the night again.
The vet explained that he had worsened far enough that she believed he would likely pass away within 24 hours, probably during the night, and so we agreed that I would take him home and let him sleep on the bed with me one final time. I then asked the vet if she could administer some pain relief to make his final hours more comfortable, and she agreed.
While we were talking, his calm breathing changed to deep breaths, and we thought he may be trying to vomit again.
The vet went into the next room to prepare the pain relief injection, and I picked him up from his cage to cuddle him. As soon as I did he relaxed in my arms, and I said to the vet that I think he will go within the hour.
A minute later I felt him go limp, and he passed away in my arms. It would seem he spent the day waiting for me to come back for him, then once in my arms chose to leave us.
I do not yet know the final bill for his ten days of treatment, but please don't make any further donations.
Thank you so much to all who donated or helped in some way, it meant so much to be able to give him all the healthcare options available, and to know that we did all we could to try to save him.
I'm really going to miss you Mr G. No more headbutts :(
