Multi-organ cancer, but still fighting- my brave mum

"I want to meet my only grandson!! I don't want to die of multiple cancers. I will fight till my end."

Auckland

My mother, just like most mothers, juggled and has always donned multiple hats all her life. Although a Bengali, she swam against the tide and trained to be a Hindi teacher. Although a chronic asthma patient, always motivated us to pick-up sports and was as active as possible. And, currently, having multiple organ cancer in the lungs, pelvis and the brain, is happy to state "I have three cancer, so perhaps two people less will have it!"

My mother, owing to the pandemic, has not even been able to hold her only grandson (a 15 month old now), is currently struggling to stay alive to meet him one day. And to do so is undergoing a battery of treatments, including radiation therapy.

With high blood pressure, hypertension, chronic asthma and hypothyroidism just some of the medical terms always used to describe my mother all her life, this new inclusion has broken her physically, but not mentally. She is a determined lady- true to her nature and is fighting- fighting hard. I hope she does not lose this battle just because I chose to pursue research (and give up hopes of earning big bucks). I request you to please help me support her fight against the disease as much as possible, but with doctors using sentences like "upto six months" to describe the duration of the battle, there are only so many hours to work and so many jobs I can do to earn anything extra to give my mother a fighting chance.
