Many go hungry in squatter camps. Your donation can make a difference. Let's feed them.

International

Munsieville squatter camp is situated in Krugersdorp, South Africa. I have a special interest in it, because it is in 'my valley'. I was born and raised on the West Rand, of which Krugersdorp is a part. We used to go to Coronation Park (Kroningspark) for annual Sunday School picnics. Who would have thought then that it would become the site for a 'white' squatter camp? These people were later relocated to Munsieville - against their will, but equally so (and more importantly) against the will of the people already living in Munsieville.

You can read an article here: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7503941/Inside-South-Africas-post-Apartheid-white-squatter-camps.html

I have decided to open this Give-a-Little page to help feed a section of the residents of the Munsieville squatter camp, known as Pongacamp. I could write books about the situation in post-apartheid South Africa and what it means for the majority of people (of all races) in their day-to-day living. For the purpose of this page it should suffice to say many people literally go hungry every day. With your help we can make a difference in a number of people's lives. There is an existing, reliable infrastructure that we can use to feed hungry tummies, at no extra cost! They are already involved in this community and provide occasional meals. They can provide a basic meal, to Pongocamp squatters, with R500. If we can raise R1500 per week, they can provide 3 meals per week. At the current mean exchange rate they need around NZ$50-60 per day, feeding close on 400 people! They are able and willing! They also provide rehabilitation and counselling services in this community and are mobilising the squatters into selfhelp. I have personally witnessed the joy of the community when someone 'made it out' i.e. got a job and was able to move out of the squatter camp.

Your contribution, big or small, will go towards buying food for these people. I have found a sponsor who will transfer the money without charging us commission on the transactions. I am extremely grateful to them for sponsoring this effort. And I am grateful for every single donation that we may receive. May God bless you abundantly.

I am looking for a sponsor to cover Give-a-little's 5% fees. Keep this in your prayers.

I was born in the same district that this squatter camp is in. I want to help fund meals at the soupkitchen for Pongocamp.

Use of funds

Money will be spent on ingredients for meals to feed around 400 people at Pongocamp in Munsieville. We aim to do three cooked meals per week. Surplus will be spent on bread and condiments to eat on the alternate days. It is an ongoing, long term project.

Feeding hungry people  15 November 2020

Covid19 has hit the world very hard. This is no different in South Africa. People who could still find 'piece-jobs' pre-covid are now not able to at all. Therefore we are extremely grateful for your contributions toward this feeding scheme. May God bless you for your kindness.
