Help get Team Lello to the USA!

AquaBots are remote operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) that are designed, built, refined and operated by students.

Following the 2022 Nelson Regional Competition nine out of 26 students qualified to compete at the 2022 National NZAquaBots Challenge in December 2022 (Tauranga).

This competition tests how well the students design, build, and operate their ROVs. A team presentation showcaseed their design to demonstrate how well they can convey their engineering ideas and market their ROV. Students needed to study articles and information related to aquaculture and biosecurity.

Students across the country compete at these Nationals in the hope of qualifying for the International competition.

We are thrilled that Team Lello from Nelson Intermediate School overcame many challenges on the day to place first equal! The four proud members of Team Lello are:

Jett Williams

Douglas Miller

Finn Harrington

Ben Jordan-Eastlake

This team has been invited to compete in the USA and have another layer of preparation to compete at this level. They'll need to submit a technical design report, a team video to and a digital poster to showcase and identify a real-world issue and design their ROV to address the issue. They'll also need to navigate their ROV through an obstacle course and a unique mission course to complete a series of tasks.

This is an incredible opportunity for the students but is expensive - all help for these budding engineers is much appreciated!

Team Lello US trip called off  9 May 2023

Hi all - unfortuatley Team Lello have not raised enough to make the trip to the US viable, and there is no online option for the competition.

The boys are disappointed, but also stoic, and we propose using the funds raised to acknowledge their progress and achievement in winning the NZ competition and being invited to the US competition, by celebrating in another way (we are looking into something special they can do together). We may also use some of the funds for future aquabot team travel.

If you've donated, and you'd like to request a refund instead, please get in touch with Givealittle at helpdesk@givealittle.co.nz by Friday 19 May 2023.
