New Zealand Youth Poetry Champions to battle it out in Melbourne.
Support these young poets as they represent Aotearoa against the Australian Youth Slam Champions.

Ngā Puna O Waiōrea are the 2023 Word – The Front Line Champions! Winning the title after competing against hundreds of poets from across Tāmaki Makaurau in the largest youth poetry event in Aotearoa. Now, they have the chance to represent their country against Australia at the 2023 Trans-Tasman Poetry Slam!
This trip is an actual once in a lifetime opportunity for these poets to represent their school and country while connecting with other young people through the art of Spoken Word.

Action Education is proud to partner with the OutLoud Secondary Slam! produced by our friend Emilie Zoey Baker and crew.
Not only will these poets be participating in the slam, they will also get the chance to faciliate workshops with other young artists and perform at several events inlcuding a special guest feature at the 2023 Youth Gala at the Wheeler Centre.
The connections and skills that the team will gain from this experience are invaluable. It will not only help them to grow as artists and leaders, but to also bring the knowledge back home in order to inspire the next generation.

For more than 40 years our programmes have engaged, nurtured, and inspired rangatahi. They have given rangatahi space to reflect, connect and grow. We use Spoken Word Poetry as our vehicle of engagement because of its power in its accessibility and directness - and - it belongs to anyone and everyone who is willing to tell their story. Through story telling we’ve found that it breaks down stereotypes, builds community connection and resilience within individuals and groups.
Use of funds
The funds we are seeking through this campaign will help to cover costs for the trip including flights, food, accommodation and transport for the poets and their support team.
