We need your support please, to help fund the drug required, in addition to chemo, to give Michelle the best chance to fight this cancer!
Northland
In December 2024, after finding a lump in her breast, Michelle’s worst fears were confirmed: she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which has also spread to her lymph nodes. The cancer is rare and aggressive. The initial MRI and PET scans have not indicated any visible further cancer throughout her body, but the oncologist has advised that there is a 50% chance it could show up in other areas.
Her oncologist has strongly suggested that, in addition to chemotherapy, Michelle should also take a drug called Pertuzumab, which is not currently funded in NZ. This drug comes at a cost of around $25,000. If she goes ahead with the drug, it gives her a 65% chance to stop any cancer in its tracks! It is a no-brainer for Michelle to have this potentially life-saving drug, but it is not something she can afford on her own.
Michelle has been through an extremely difficult few years and was finally getting her life back on track, living her best life. She does not deserve this hand she has been dealt, but she is ready to fight with all her might. Despite everything, Michelle has not lost her fighting spirit or her sense of humour.
For those who don’t know Michelle personally, she is one of the best humans you will ever meet! She is always willing to help and has been a pillar of support for many. With Michelle being on her own, we are trying to raise funds to cover the cost of the drug and to help ease the financial stress she will face while undergoing treatment.
Thank you 🤍
My dear friend of 16 years and work bestie. A loved mother and nana and beautiful friend to many. She always helps others. Recently she was part of several breast cancer awareness campaigns and raising money, not knowing what her future would hold.
To help fund this potential life-saving drug (Pertuzumab) and to relieve some financial pressure so she can focus all of her energy on Chemotherapy and fighting this cancer. She doesn’t easily accept help, especially financial so we appreciate anything, big or small x
Chemo 4 update 25 April 2025
Since my last update, life has been a total whirlwind, sometimes very overwhelming
I had a scan recently to check the progress of the chemo on the tumour in the breast and lymph nodes
This was to determine how effective chemo has been
I was absolutely blown away, as was my doctor who did the scan
My cancer has shrunk considerably
It is now only 9mm big
It has shrunk 75 per cent!!
This means i continue on with Chemo
I have session 5 next tuesday
Because of the generosity of you all here, i was also able to start treatment with Pertuzumab in chemo 4
So on a tuesday i do 5 hours with chemo, and i take a non reaction drug first
Then on Wednesday after chemo i have the Pertuzumab
This is administered via IV
Both have their own side effects, so that was alot harder then just chemo alone
But i know, and i keep reminding myself of the results so far, and the hope of trying to keep this cancer reoccuring and helping me back to better health and recovery
I am forever thanful to you all
I am far from the finish line, still along way to go
Chem and Pertuzumab are just a piece in the puzzle, but i continue to push foward and fight to cross that line
With all the aroha to you all
