Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua - We walk backwards into the future with our eyes fixed on the past.
Our Health Museum is a dedicated digital platform which provides a collective memory of authentic medical heritage and health developments in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Pasifika, making links to the present and the future.
Our Health Museum aims to celebrate and preserve historical medical and health developments, educate and inform users about medical and heath developments, provide authentic scientific, medical and health information and enable the co-curation of historical medical and health developments while connecting these to the wider social context.
Auckland Medical Museum Trust (AMMT) was formed in 2014 to bring a medical museum to Aotearoa New Zealand.
In 2017 AMMT opened the very successful mobile exhibition, Brave Hearts: The New Zealand Cardiac Story visited by more that 100,000 people including many families and school children in nine different geographical locations. This innovative three year project was the first tangible step towards a dedicated medical museum show casing our medical achievements and inspiring younger generations.
In 2021 and 2022 AMMT received funding from a number of philanthropic grants including the Lottery Grant Board to enable the vision of a digital museum to progress
We believe that every New Zealander, especially young people and children should know about the medical and health heritage of Aotearoa, New Zealand.
