Alex wants to live for the ones she loves. She has aggressive Stage3 melanoma cancer, treatment costs over $150,000, and not funded in NZ.
Manawatu / Whanganui
Diagnosed with Stage3 Melanoma Cancer, in May Alex began the KEYTRUDA immunotherapy treatment that will give her the best chance of fighting this aggressive cancer- but it is not funded in New Zealand. A devastating blow to this young family with the Keytruda treatment alone expected to cost over $150,000.00 -that is $10,000 every three weeks for the next year, a massive financial burden for any family.
Alex was about to re-enter the work force when she received the shattering news that she had Stage3 melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Her whole world has changed. Now she is focused on her treatments, staying positive and caring for her gorgeous babies Jordan aged three and Winter aged seven months.
If you would like to help support this family by giving a little, that would be absolutely wonderful and so very much appreciated. Your kindness will allow the family to focus their energies on what really matters- their family, keeping positive, and fighting this vicious cancer.
Alex has had three surgeries, she is such a courageous women, remarkably positive and upbeat.
“I really want to remind everyone no matter your age- please be sun smart please be cautious of the damage sun can cause. It only took a sunburn (possibly as a teen) to cause my melanoma, which wasn't found in time and spread into my lymph nodes.
It's one of those things that you never believe will happen to you and when it does your world tips upside down! I will forever spread awareness now, so please get regular skin checks, please if you think a mole is changing get it checked ASAP!”
Skin cancers are the most-common type of cancer in New Zealand – in fact they account for about 80 per cent of all new cancer diagnoses each year.
New Zealand has one of the worst incidences of melanoma in the world and kills more than 300 New Zealanders each year, amounting to nearly one death a day…and yet the vital life preserving treatment of the immunotherapy Keytruda is not funded in New Zealand. This has to change!
Thank you so very much for your kind support. AROHANUI

From our family to all of you, our Givealittle Friends and supporters, we just want to say a huge thanks and how truly grateful Alex and her family are for the most wonderful kindness and generosity you have all shown to her over the last 9 months. Your donations and kind words and prayers have given her the the strength and ability to keep on and have helped her to lighten the load on what was a massive burden on her and she is so humbled. Keytruda has made a significant impact on the cancer fight . Alex was not able to continue through to April as planned but is still under the umbrella of the Team at Crest Hospital and also Palmerston North Hospital. The last couple of months she has had some highs and lows but is still making massive improvements and is still as positive and upbeat today as she was in the beginning. We have certainly been lucky to have had this opportunity from Bevan and Kathy to get this wonderful page up and running and once again Alex and family along with Chris and I are so very grateful to you all . Thanks for your amazing kindness and best wishes to you all x
