Please help Izzy kick cancer to the curb. All donations will will go towards supporting Isabelle and her family as she fights this battle.
Nelson / Tasman
Isabelle is the daughter of Jodie and Jez Lodge and a big sister to Elizabeth and William.
Following recent tests due to pain in the lower back area, our beautiful girl Isabelle has been admitted to Christchurch Children’s Hospital and has since been diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma. Ewings Sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that occurs in bone or the soft tissue surrounding the bones and typically occurs in children and young adults. In Isabelle’s case the cancer has developed in the spine which means surgery to remove the tumor is not an option. Isabelle is relying on chemotherapy treatment for the next 6-12 months coupled with radiation therapy to treat the cancer.
Isabelle is currently in a wheelchair however we are optimistic the treatments Isabelle is receiving will shrink the tumor leaving the possibility of walking without pain a reality in the future.
Like a true warrior Isabelle is up for the fight, continuing to smile and taking all of this within her stride. We are all confident Isabelle will beat this cancer and kick it to the curb. Isabelle is a determined beautiful vibrant young lady with a caring nature who has a great passion for music and is an accomplished student who attends Waimea College.
Due to the treatment Isabelle requires, it is expected that she will need to spend the next year in Christchurch hospital with her mother, a long way from her network of family and friends. During this time there will be ongoing additional and unexpected expenses that will be incurred by the family for medical, therapy, travel, food and accommodation.
With two younger siblings and her Dad back in Nelson, fundraising is going to be crucial in helping the Lodge family get through this difficult journey.
In these uncertain times we understand it may be difficult to donate, but if you can, any amount will be appreciated. Please be assured that anything you donate will go towards supporting Isabelle and her family as she fights this battle.
The Lodge family would whole heartedly like to thank family, friends and the community for support during this extremely difficult time.
As you can imagine this is a very busy time, however we will do our best to update Izzie’s page as frequent as possible.
I am Jodie's younger sister, Isabelle's Aunty. With the help of family we have setup this page and thank everyone for your contribution.
Funds will assist with living costs, travel, food and accommodation expenses enabling Izzy to have much needed family time and support while the family is unable to earn income at full capacity. Unknown medical and therapy treatments going forward.
That's a wrap! 9 December 2022
It seems fitting that we share the final update around the same time that we first shared that Izzy had cancer. We are so thrilled to say that Izzy has indeed kicked cancer to the curb!
Izzy completed her final chemotherapy on the 10th of October. Following that she had a few weeks of blood tests, scans and tests then on the 10th of November she had her lines removed, meaning the treatment is completely over.
When we first entered this journey, this date was so far away we couldnt see the light. Now that it's all over Izzy has picked right back up where she left off exactly 1 year ago.
Izzy sat her school exams, picking up a few credits along the way and last weekend she travelled to Tauranga with a group of friends to take part in the national Aquabot competition, where they placed 2nd!
Thank you to everyone who has helped us get Izzy to where she is today, a healthy, strong and sound young woman.
Today Izzy was given her final beads of courage including the grand purple heart! All together she collected 791 beads - 1 bead for every doctor visit, treatment, setback, blood transfusion and more. Seeing all of the courage beads together gives you a view of what the year has involved.
We have been inundated with love and support throughout this journey and we will forever be thankful to everyone.
