Please help me give my stepson the diagnosis and educational help he deserves.

The profile picture is drawn by our boy. He drew this in June for his Nana's birthday.
I met my stepson four years ago when I married his Dad. He is an amazing kind hearted child, he's just different. At age 12 I taught him how to ride a bike and tie his laces. He is now 16 and now lives with us. He is in NCEA level 1 this year. He is half way through and does not have the number of credits he should by now, we are concerned he may not obtain enough as he currently has a total of 8. He is on a waiting list for the assessments and to get him help, he's been diagnosed with PTSD and now his father and I are trying to give him the best chance in life. He often crys because he doesn't understand himself and can't make friends. The money raised is to get my stepsons assessments done and get him the help he needs to succeed. We believe he is on the spectrum and we would like to pay privately to be tested as he will be in for a 12 month or longer wait to be assessed through the DHB. At the moment he is not getting any specialist care due to him not having a formal diagnosis. He's worth the world to me and has been let down on many avenues. As his step mum I have made sure he has seen doctors, dentists etc, now I need to help him understand who he is and work out how to help him learn so that he can have a bright future. We want to get him tested and help ASAP but don't have the money to make it happen. I don't want him to be another statistic.
He is my stepson. He is in his fathers care. I am unable to have children myself and the moment I met him we bonded. He's my buddy and my son, not by blood but by love.
Autism, ADHD & ODD assessments in the Private sector otherwise he has to wait over a year and will loose his chance with schooling. Funds will be paid to my stepsons Father, Jamie.
Holding hope 6 August 2023
Found out that if we get our boy his assessment it will open so many doors for him, from being able to be in school longer, when it comes time for him to get a job there is a outreach programme that will help him get employment. He will be able to join social groups and make friends with kids that are like him. The thought of being able to give that to our boy is so exciting. It will also mean we will have more information on how to help him as he progresses through life, help to know how to support his emotional needs as well as mental. I look forward to my boy being able to understand himself more.

Autism is:
Unable to speak, or maybe speaking too much
Hugging everyone, or disliking touch
Escaping outside,
Or trying to hide
Excitedly flapping
Inappropriate clapping
Autism varies so much.
Won't wear a coat, or wears one all year round
Fussy eater, or would eat dirt from the ground.
Toys in a line the same way every time
Autism varies so much.
Struggling to learn, or has wonderful gifts
Obsessions of numbers, trains, films or lifts
Autism varies so much
Alone without friends, or controls every game
Always looks different, always dresses the same
Can't answer questions, won't do as they're told
In their own world or bossy and bold
Over prepared
Anxious and scared
A spectrum so wide
But they all bring us pride
When autism touches our lives.
I support autism awareness always
