Fundraising for the unfunded drugs Avastin and Irinotecan with an estimate of $91 000 to give him more time with his family.
Drury, Auckland
Gerhardus was diagnosed in March 2020 with Stage 3 brain cancer after 3 misdiagnoses, he had surgery to remove the 3cmx2.5cm tumour along with 30 fractions of radiation over a period of
6 weeks and 6 months of chemo with follow up MRI's every 3-4 months.
Unfortunately he was given the devastated news by his Oncologist in December 2023 that his latest MRI showed significant new growth of the tumour spreading and was told it is now grade 4 and terminal, given months to live without unfunded drug treatment.
Sadly surgery is not an option again this time.
He was offered re radiation but only 10 fractions over 10 days which he had over the Christmas period and new year.
He now urgently needs to start the unfunded immunotherapy drug called Avastin and combined chemotherapy drug called Irinotecan, this will buy him much loved time with his wife and children. The Oncologist said they had really good results in cases where the treatment was shrinking brain tumours and in other cases slowing down the growth.
Unfortunately Gerhardus has to pay in private for the treatment. The unfunded treatment has a significant cost with an estimate of $91 000.
We would immensely appreciate every bit of help to start him on the much needed Avastin and Irinotecan drugs.
I am Gerhardus wife

Update 30 May 2024
Hi everyone, although our page closed, I wanted to take this opportunity to give you all an update.
Gerhardus will have tomorrow his last chemo dosage no 10(he was only allowed to receive 10 as per our original post)
We received this morning an update via phone from the Oncologist re Gerhardus latest MRI which was on done on 16th of May at Middlemore, his MRI shows he is stable. The Dr is very very happy with how Gerhardus took the treatment.
His words “it was awesome how well Gerhardus took treatment compared to other patients, and we are beyond grateful for that.
Gerhardus will this continue with the Avastin alone now and will have an MRI again between 2-3 months from now.
We are seeing our other oncologist on Tuesday which will show us the scans comparison.
Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
