Eliason Brian McIver Stensness
Auckland
Eliason was born prematurely at just 29 weeks, weighing a tiny 881 grams. Now 6 months old, this brave wee fighter has already endured more medical procedures than most of us will in a lifetime. He is currently in Starship Hospital in Auckland, where he faces yet another enormous challenge: he has been diagnosed with liver disease and urgently needs a transplant.
However, Eliason cannot receive the much needed transplant until he gains more weight - something that has been incredibly difficult for him. In the meantime, he needs both his mum and dad by his side to support him through this critical time.
Eliason's parents, Aliesha and Brian, live in the Waikato and are unable to work while they stay in Auckland to be with him. They also have two other young children at home and, like all families, ongoing bills and responsibilities to manage.
We are asking for any help you can give - whether it's $1, $5, $10, or more - to ease the financial burden on this devoted young family. Every dollar makes a difference and brings them one step closer to getting through this incredibly tough journey.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support.
I am aunty to Brian and great aunt to Eliason.
Helping the family to pay rent, while mum and dad aren't working, buy food, petrol going backwards and forwards to the hospital, anything that Eliason needs to help him, eg., special milk formula.
Eliason Brian McIver-Stensness 4 October 2025
Today marks 30 days since Eli's liver transplant.
He's still in PICU, and we don't yet know when he'll be strong enough to move to the ward. He's not quite breathing on his own yet, and the doctors are carefully monitoring to make sure all his organs are working together as they should.
I visited him today, it was both beautiful and heartbreaking. He opened his gorgeous blue eyes now and then and seemed to enjoy hearing our voices, listening intently and following us with his eyes. He even had a little wriggle in his cot. The most precious moment was seeing him in his mothers's arms again, something we've longed for.
Eli has endured so much. With all our hearts, we hope he continues to heal and grow stronger, step by step. He truly is the bravest wee fighter.
Unless you've walked this road, it's hard to understand the toll it takes, on Eli's mum and dad, and on his two siblings, whose world has also been turned upside down.
Thank you to everyone who has stood beside our family through these very difficult months. Your love and support mean more than words can say.
