Breaking Boundaries (BRKBND) is bringing our much-loved queer & trans open mics to a new venue and we need your help to make it our own!
Auckland
Breaking Boundaries' [BRKBND] queer and trans open mics nights are a safe and inclusive social night for the Auckland LGBTQI+ community. Our open mic is open to all creative expressions and skill levels - whether it is your first time performing or you're an open mic veteran, everyone is made to feel welcome and celebrated here.
These nights have become so popular that we need to trial a new space - but this comes with extra costs that our grants and koha can't cover.
Our open mic nights are open to everyone. Yes, that means you can bring you grandma, or even your one year old child. However, all attendees must recognise that it is a queer and trans space. The mic is reserved for queer and trans voices. Homophobia, transphobia and racism (etc; on the mic, or off it) are not tolerated.
Who are we?
We aim to uplift, empower, and cultivate local LGBTQI+ creative talent. We do this by developing free/low cost/accessible events, fostering collaboration, and supporting the creative endeavours of others.
Breaking Boundaries is a creative arts organisation for LGBTIQ+ people in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Funds will be utilized to fit out new venue with cosy furnishings, better signage, improve accessibility, and for tech assistance.
