The Shaw's need your help. Dan is in hospital in Australia receiving medical care for serious injuries, and the costs are growing quickly.
Auckland
In February, Dan travelled from New Zealand to compete in the Australian SuperKart 2026 Nationals at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. During the event he was involved in a major incident that required him to be airlifted to Melbourne Hospital’s Emergency Department. His dad, Andrew, who was with him at the track, has stayed by his side ever since, and his mum, Sharon, is flying to Australia this week to support him as he begins a long and challenging recovery.
Dan has already undergone surgery for spinal damage in his lower back. He is also recovering from:
• Multiple broken ribs
• A broken shoulder and collar bone
• A fractured neck
• A punctured lung
• A severely broken arm requiring several more surgeries
Despite the pain and seriousness of his injuries, Dan remains positive and determined. His recovery will be lengthy—first in Australia, then back home in New Zealand once he is stable enough to travel.
All contributions will go directly toward supporting Dan and his parents as they face mounting medical, accommodation, and travel costs, along with many unexpected expenses. With their insurance unlikely to cover much, the financial pressure is growing at the worst possible time.
Your generosity will help ease the burden so the family can focus on what matters most: Dan’s healing and recovery.

Dan’s Recovery Continues — We Still Need Your Help to Keep Him Moving Forward 13 April 2026
First, some encouraging news. A week ago, Dan was transferred from the hospital to a local rehab center to continue his recovery. He’s now able to walk about 100 meters a few times a day with assistance. While he still can’t get out of bed on his own or put on the braces he needs for walking, the physio team is working closely with him to build the strength required to reach that next milestone. His concussion related headaches are ongoing, but thankfully the vomiting has stopped.
Dan has been in hospital care since February 28th, and although he’s making steady progress, his doctors don’t expect he’ll be well enough to fly home for another few months. His projected discharge date from the rehab center is July 28th.
The bills for the helicopter evacuation, ambulance transport, and his dad’s accommodation to date have come in, fully exhausting the funds raised so far, with additional expenses still expected. This community has already shown incredible generosity, and we’re deeply thankful. We’re asking once more for your help in sharing Dan’s story to reach new supporters and keep his recovery on track.
