Help us fund treatment for Ray's brain cancer. This is not publicly or privately funded but will give Ray the best shot at quality of life.
Auckland
Ray is a gentle hardworking man with a heart of gold. He has two adult children, three beautiful granddaughters, is the loving husband of Cathy and a number one Liverpool football fan.
Having never been in hospital, Ray was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) brain cancer in September 2014 – stage four brain cancer. An incredible shock for a man who is hardly ever unwell. Over the past year Ray has had two brain surgeries to remove tumours, two rounds of radiation (daily for six weeks and two weeks), two rounds of chemotherapy, multiple CT and MRI scans, and a severe seizure. All of which he battled with positivity, good humour and a smile, despite considerable stress.
After extensive discussions, the oncology team has advised that the most effective treatment for this type of recurring brain cancer includes Avastin, a medication not currently covered by PHARMAC or private health insurance. The cost for this treatment is approximately $50,000. While we are doing our best as a family to fund this, we do need help.
Please help us raise the funds needed to give Ray this treatment and quality of life for as long as possible.
We thank you all for your love and support. You’ll never walk alone xx
I'm Ray's daughter and together with Mum Cathy (Ray's wife of nearly 50 years), my brother Simon and our families, we're doing all we can to give Dad the best quality of life for as long as possible.
Welcome to 2016! Time for more precious memories and positivity 23 February 2016
Last week Dad had his 9th – yes 9th – Avastin treatment. As his oncologist said “remarkable!” That’s not to say the road is easy – there are challenges, plenty of fatigue and some days are tougher than others. But Dad’s feeling pretty well, we’re taking one day at a time, and enjoying plenty of special times with family and friends.
The next few months will see an MRI which will hopefully show Avastin is still making a difference and we can keep going down this track. Please keep all your positive thoughts and prayers coming our way, and thank you again for your love and support – it means so much to our family.
Much love xxx
