Assist smallholders in Uganda to plant trees, to fight climate disruption and minimise hill-country erosion.
International
Please help us to raise more money to continue our reforestation project and
• Fight climate disruption by soaking up CO2
• Minimise hill-country erosion
• Provide building poles for house construction.
Rubuguri village lies on the Southern Boundary of Bwindi National Park in S.W. Uganda. (Bwindi is home to one of the world’s remaining populations of mountain gorillas.)
In February 2017 - thanks to Givealittle - we raised enough money to buy 3180 seedlings, to pay for 106 smallholders to plant them and for professional advice and supervision. https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/ugandareforestation
A few weeks ago we visited Uganda and listened to the villagers’ concerns (and yes, we did offset the carbon footprint of our travel!). There is a HUGE need for more trees, hence phase two of our project.
$1 NZ will buy FIVE tree seedlings!
The project is supervised by village Chairman, Tumuheirwe John with advice from professional forester Byarugaba Felix. Seedlings are provided by three local nurserymen.
This project has been accepted as part of Trump Forest - https://trumpforest.com/ (“We're planting a global forest to offset Trump's monumental stupidity.”)
I'm contributing NZ$2000.00 of my own money to kick-start phase two.
I grew up in Uganda and have strong links there. In 2017 I was asked to fund phase one of this project; that Givealittle page is now closed, so this is phase two.
We pay local nurserymen for tree seedlings; we pay poor smallholders to transport and plant them; and we pay for expert forestry advice and supervision. The more money we raise, the more trees we can plant.
Thank you!! That's another step towards helping Rubuguri villagers towards self-sufficiency and some measure of prosperity.
A big THANK YOU!! I'm in touch with the people over there, and planting is now well underway as this is the main wet season.
Thank you! The seedlings are being grown and distributed right now, during the rainy season. So that's another 25 trees we can pay for.
Thanks!! Much appreciated.
A big THANK YOU. When we visited last August, the village people begged us to fund raise for more trees. Now we can deliver!
