Greenhithe is taking action against Auckland Transport's installation of concrete separators on Upper Harbour Drive!
Greenhithe, Auckland
Recently, Auckland Transport (AT) has installed concrete separators (barriers) along Upper Harbour Drive. What use to be a beloved 4km stretch of road for pedestrians, cyclist, motorists and residents has now become, as named by the community, "The Road of Shame".
Installed for "cyclist safety", there have been more accidents and injuries for both cyclists and motorists in the last 6 months than there were in the previous 5 years. Not just a few, we might add, a 2400% increase in accidents.
Despite a petition with nearly 2,000 signatures, an out cry of safety concerns from the Greenhithe community and safety concerns from the New Zealand Police, AT refuse to remove these separators.
So, the community is banding together to take action!
We are a group of residents, nominated by the community.
