Your support will help Restore to Remember clean over a thousand service headstones on Saturday 23 April, in the lead up to ANZAC Day.
Nationwide
Restore to Remember is a joint initiative by the New Zealand Remembrance Army (NZRA) and Student Volunteer Army (SVA). On the Saturday 23 April 2022, small teams of students and NZRA supervisors will do basic cleaning in selected cemeteries across New Zealand. Its projected 700 volunteers are taking part, in regions including Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Taranaki and Hawkes Bay.
Through Restore to Remember we hope to clean over a thousand headstones in one day. It's over 100 years since WWI and remembrance is part of the reason ANZAC Day still resonates with younger generations.
The restoration and cleaning of these headstones is a way to honour and respect that sacrifice – and preserving that legacy for future kiwi’s. The students and volunteers are connecting with their communities, perhaps a past relative, and importantly with a sense of the sacrifice these service men and women made for New Zealand.
The support from local communities and schools has been amazing. There are some great people and organisations behind this project to thank, including the teachers, students, and volunteers. And finally Restore and Remember would not be possible without the sponsorship and support of some organisations, including AMP, Bunnings, Resene, Bio Shield and Topfilte.
The event is underwritten by AMP and teams are supplied with brushes and buckets by Bunnings.
The New Zealand Remembrance Army is a charitable trust set up to foster volunteer groups across New Zealand to restore service headstones and memorials. All restoration is done freely and volunteers carry out the work in their local communities.
