Supporting community presentations to Auckland Council's Hearing Panel on the application to build a retirement village at Ngataringa Bay

Auckland

This Givealittle Page is to specifically fund the commissioning and presentation of an Urban Design report for the community by Architect and Landscape Architect, Richard Reid.

Ngataringa Bay Action Group is supporting and enabling the best possible community presentations to Auckland Council's Hearing on the application to build, maintain and operate a retirement village at Ngataringa Road, Devonport. We are co-ordinating and supporting presentations on Traffic, Construction Effects, Heritage and Archaeology, Protection of the Foreshore Bush, and we have commissioned Richard Reid to produce and present expert Urban Design evidence. The Hearing begins 9:30am, Monday the 5th of December and runs until Friday the 9th at Takapuna Council Chamber, Level 3, 1 The Strand, Takapuna.

Richard Reid is a specialist on how large scale projects impact urban and natural landscapes. He has recently been involved in the Three Kings development with the local community and their appeal to the Environment Court. The Court ordered significant changes be made in this case. He was involved with advising NZTA on retaining and relocating the heritage Bird Cage Hotel when the Victoria Park motorway tunnel was designed. He provided expert advice to submitters on Wellington’s proposed Basin Reserve motorway flyover - their appeal was won at the Environment Court. He worked in London with Colin St. John Wilson on the British Library, one of the most important and largest public buildings built in Britain in the 20th century. Richard has an appropriate skill set and experience to support and advise Ngataringa Bay Action Group.

If the goal is not achieved by the appeal end date, we will be obtaining under-writings from the community and running community raffles, garage and cake sales, and family entertainment events and picnics. However, this Givealittle page is the most effective and timely way to support this important community action now - please, give generously.

Ngataringa Bay Action Group has been formed efficiently and informally. It currently has nine members but may co-opt more as needed; Alan McNatty, Di Humphreys, Gay Richards, Iain Rea, Jacqui Goldingham, Ken Davis, Marinka Teague, Petra Heemskerk, and Trish Deans.

Any development should take account of the heritage and conservation values of the site, and integrate with the surrounding neighbourhood without overburdening peninsula infrastructure.

The site offers the opportunity to create something of lasting value for the developer, the landowner, and the wider community.

Thank you, you've helped SO much.  18 December 2016

With wide and generous support form the community to support Mr Reid's expert evidence in the matter of an application to build a retirement village at Ngataringa Bay; at the close of this appeal we were just over two thousand dollars short of achieving our goal. That represents a substantial show of support from concerned members of the community.

Funds raised include this Givealittle page, donations made directly to Ngataringa Bay Action Group's account at BNZ, Devonport Branch (see https://facebook.com/groups/NgataringaBay/ for more details), and proceeds from the sale of t-shirts and badges at Red Queen, 2 Marine Square, Devonport Wharf.

Thank you to all those who have supported this cause. You are enabling the community to put forward the best possible representation of its concerns in this matter.
