Supporting the restoration of Drewry Twinset Railcar RM121
Pahiatua, Manawatu-Wanganui
We need your support!
The restoration of RM121 is a historically significant project for New Zealand’s railway heritage as it is the sole surviving member of the Drewry Articulated Twinset Railcars.
Saved by the RM133 Railcar Trust Board along with the remains of RM133, ownership has now passed to the Pahiatua Railcar Society whose members are carrying out this major restoration project.
Like any restoration project there are significant costs associated and this is no different. To keep the project moving forward we need to raise funds to have components manufactured, this is because components we do have are either beyond repair or we just don’t have them and there are no known spares.
For this appeal we need to have the following components manufactured:
Elliptical Bolster Springs
These are key components in the restoration of the bogies for RM121. These springs form part of the suspension system that provides a smooth ride. All six of the elliptical bolster springs are beyond repair and need to be replaced.
Saloon Window Components
The saloon windows on the Twinset railcars had an opening portion that used a winding mechanism to move the window up and down. We do not have any usable window winder components however we have found a business in NZ that can manufacture the components for the 48 windows.
The Pahiatua Railcar Society Inc was formed to save, restore and operate ex-NZR Railcars.
Components required to keep the project moving forward.
