Rod’s second cancer battle
Canterbury
My husband Rodney was diagnosed with bowel cancer 6 years ago, he won that battle but unfortunately in November 2020 we got devastating news the cancer has returned and has metastasised to his liver, lungs and lymph nodes and was given a life expectancy of 2-4 months, but we are now in 2022 and he has defied them odds.
The next step on his journey is to get not PHARMAC-funded Chemotherapy, Cetuximab to give him more time (4-6 months) to spend with his friends and family, this comes at a cost of $4659, Rod has health insurance but unfortunately they will not cover this type of chemotherapy (we have to fund the first 5 sessions and then funding will be available through Merck, so total cost for us will be around $24,000. We would really appreciate any help that anyone can offer.
Time for him is so precious and I need to give as much time as possible.

Non-funded Chemotherapy, Cetuximab
Going good so far 29 April 2022
Rod has now had 2 treatments (with all your help this has been possible) of the cetuximab and seems to handling having the 2 chemos together, the good thing is he is having less pain which hopefully means it is doing some miracles inside, he is due to have a scan in about 4 weeks so we can get a better picture if it is either slowing down the liver growth or just keeping it as it is, or the best news ever would be it is actually shrinking. Thank you everyone again for giving him this opportunity, it really sucks that much needed drugs for cancer are not available at no cost. Will update again after the scan results.
