Running for Huntington's Disease Youth Camps

I'm Steph from HDYO-NZ, a charity that supports youth impacted by Huntington’s disease (HD) in NZ. In 2024, we started holding youth camps to bring young people across the country together for fun activities, educational sessions and a chance to connect with other youth impacted by HD. Our first camp was a huge success, and we hope to host one every 2 years.

Here's what a young person who attended our 2024 camp said:

"I find it extremely helpful being able to have conversations with people in the same boat. This camp created a space for these conversations. I am in the middle of receiving my test results regarding HD and it was encouraging to hear others’ journeys. It was also great to meet people who have devoted much of their life to helping people impacted by HD. I left feeling grateful and proud to be part of such an awesome community."

This cause is close to my heart because I underwent genetic testing for HD in 2021. At a scary and isolating time of my life, HDYO-NZ gave me hope, providing the sense of understanding and connection described above. I've since joined the team and am committed to helping recreate this magic for others in our community. To fundraise for our second camp (Queenstown, May 2026) I'm running Round the Bays (Auckland, March 2026).
