Quinn Gardiner-Hall aged 11 is on a mission to inspire Kiwi kids. He's running a half marathon in Antarctica and wants you with him!
Auckland
After seeing so many kids his age spending buckets of time on x-box, playstations, iPads and watching TV, at age 8 Quinn started wondering how NZ could keep making awesome NZ'ers like Sir Ed Hillary and Sir Peter Blake (2 of his idols) if they weren't getting outside getting active like Kiwi kids should be.
He decided this wasn't a good thing and set about inspiring more Kiwi kids to put the x-Box down and get outside.
He's a keen runner so nagged his Mum until she let him do his first half marathon at Kerikeri at age 8. He finsihed in a time of 2hrs 07, wasting his Mum along the way and becoming the youngest ever runner to run the event. At age 9, Quinn ran the Australian Outback Half Marathon in an unbelievable time of 1hr 57, (wasting his Mum again...) and becoming the youngest runner to ever run that event.
Quinn's 3rd half marathon is the Kauai Half Marathon in Hawaii.
Quinn has now received special acceptance to run the ANTARCTICA HALF MARATHON in March 2017!!! It will be his most challenging event ever with temperatures in the negatives and wild winds.
Quinn wants to take 2,100 names with him to Antarctica on a scroll so they can "run with him" - that's 100 names for every kilometer he'll be running.
EVERY PERSON WHO DONATES TO THIS GIVEALITTLE PAGE CAN HAVE THEIR NAME (or someone they nominate-great gift for kids) ENTERED ONTO THE SCROLL THAT WILL BE RUNNING WITH QUINN IN ANTARCTICA. Printable certificates showing your name or someone else's for donations of $10 or more can be emailed through to you. To receive a printable email certificate, please add "certificate please" plus the person's name to go on the certificate to your comment when making your donation.
All funds raised will be used to support Quinn getting to Antarctica (he has to travel to the bottom of South America and then catch a research ship to Antarctica), running the race and sharing his experiences with Kiwi kids and the rest of New Zealand.
As lead supporter of Quinn's On A Mission, I'm proud to be involved with this cause. I am Quinn's Mum and I believe my biggest responsibility in life is to support my children to become great adults, especially when they undertake something for the greater good as Quinn is doing.
To have a young son who shows concern for his community and the future of his country and who then gets off his bum and does something awesome about it, is humbling.
