5 yr old Sapphire was involved in a serious road accident and is fighting for her life! Your donations will help the family combat expenses.
Clendon Park, Auckland
5 year old Sapphire Wakefield was on her way home from school and was critically injured after being hit by a car, while crossing the road with her 2 older siblings in Manurewa, last Thursday. Police are investigating, as witnesses attest that the driver was using mobile phone.
If it wasn’t for the heroism and quick thinking of her 12year old sister, injuries to both sibling’s would’ve been much worse. She managed to push her siblings out of the way, called for help from the neighbours who made contact with Police, ambulance and her Dad and prevented the driver from fleeing from the scene.
Sapphire was resuscitated a number of times at the scene and was rushed off to Starship with severe damage to her brain, skull and spine. She has undergone a number of life-saving surgeries but continues to overcome setbacks with a fighting spirit.
Dad Victor is so thankful for the assistance given to his girls at the accident scene, support from the community, including the primary school where his children attend. He has faced his own setbacks over the past months, after suffering a heart attack. Exhausting all his sick and annual leave, he returned to work a month ago, concentrating on bringing all their household bills up to date. All 3 girls celebrate birthdays within 2 weeks of each other, with Sapphire turning 6 on 1 December. Christmas is just around the corner so the biggest gift this family could receive, would be to one of healing for little Sapphire and the whole whanau.
It will be a long road ahead, but through the kindness of others, we hope this page will help relieve the financial pressures for the family as they manage their way through associated costs of medical, petrol and parking, continued household costs.
