We need your help to restore an old gem back to it's former glory located in the picturesque village of Te Kopuru.
Northland
St Peter's Anglican Church is situated in Te Kopuru which is located in the Northern Wairoa district. Of the many churches that served the local community over the past century, St Peter's is now the last remaining church and is still in regular use. St Peter's Church is registered with the Historic Places Trust as a Category 2 building.
Now 118 years old, this church and adjacent hall is in serious need of exterior repairs; with the need of a new roof and bell tower, carpentry to replace rotten weatherboards and exterior painting to protect this historic church and hall for the future needs of this small community.
In March 1902, Mrs A.J. Beck, the wife of the vicar of the Parochial District of Northern Wairoa laid the foundation stone for St Peter's. The design of the church was the work of the Reverend Wingfield an architect by profession, and during that year the build was completed by Mr W.F. Bulford at the cost being £247/4/6d and opened free of debt in the following September and dedicated by Archdeacon Calder of Auckland.
The ornaments and furnishings of the church were donated by the parishioners of Te Kopuru, the shell font was given by local Māori, the Bell by Massey Bros. of Auckland and the Altar Cross by the Reverend F.W. Young.
The money raised will be used to replace the roofs, bell tower, rotten weatherboards and to paint the exterior of this historic church and adjacent hall.
