Help us save the lives of extra horses from the 2022 Kaimanawa Horse Muster, by sponsoring them to be placed with a professional trainer.
Nationwide
With 82 wild horses still needing homes during the upcoming Kaimanawa Horse Muster and only a week until the deadline closes, there's an urgent need for more horses to be saved. At this point it's not looking promising that enough homes will be found to rehome all 150 horses targeted for removable (with applications for just 68 horses so far) so KHH are looking for donations to place sponsored horses with professional trainers.
For every $2000 raised, a horse can be placed with one of NZ's leading wild horse trainers, who will donate their time to train the horses and provide care for it ongoing.
The $2000 will cover the basic costs immediately after the muster, including:
$250 purchase
$200 - $450 transport
$500 - hay/feed
$200 dental work
$80 farrier
$600 gelding
The trainers we have confirmed so far are already rehoming mature stallions from the muster, so the sponsored horses would be in addition to the horses they have already submitted applications for. They are all approved by KHH due to their empathic handling techniques and years of experience with wild horses.
We have set a target of $24,000 currently as our trainers collectively can open their hearts and yards to 12 horses, and we will increase the target if more spaces become available.
Annually the population of wild Kaimanawa horses is reduced to 300 by aerial mustering. We search for suitable homes for these horses, rehoming as many as possible.
For every $2000 raised an extra horse can be saved, with the money covering: purchase, transport, hay and feed, as well as dental, farrier and vet bills.
