Help us fight the Goliath of big money taking our beautiful bay for a private marina. Funds to be used to appeal to the environment court.
Auckland
It is our responsibility to protect and preserve our natural taonga.
We believe the water belongs to all the people and no one should own it. It is for all to share and enjoy.
One of our beautiful bays will be lost forever if this marina goes ahead.
Help STOP beautiful Kennedy bay on Waiheke Island from being despoiled by a private marina development.
This is our back door. One of our main arteries. There's 4 schools in the main road with more than 1000 students and families on that road every week day, twice daily at least. Shelley Beach - one of our popular swimming beaches is just around the corner. The area has significant historical and environmental values. There's rich Maori history in this area as well.
Waiheke Island is one of the jewels in the middle of the Hauraki Gulf Maritime Park. We need to protect it.
We want to protect Kennedy Point and the inner Harbour of Putiki Bay - our coastal waters. We acknowledge the need for improved facilities for boaties but we think a Marina is NOT the right answer.
We want to preserve and protect it's natural, historical, ecological and landscape values from exclusive occupation. Prioritise the transport hub function of KP and minimise the impact on traffic of one of our main gateways which house 2 schools and 2 kindergartens with over 1000 children and their families using that road daily.
Funds raised will be used to pay legal fees and environmental studies to oppose the construction of a marina in Kennedy Point.
SKP inc - Environment Court Appeal 3 November 2017
We are now appealing to the Environment Court to Stop the construction of the Marina at Kennedy Point.
We need to raise more funds to present our legal case in court and we need your help.
If you've ever been to Waiheke Island and you have beautiful memories of this Island Paradise and it's laid back atmosphere and colourful people, PLEASE GIVE A LITTLE and spread the word. HELP US protect our public spaces for us and our future generations.
Thanks to everyone who has supported us financially and morally this far.
A BIT OF HISTORY:
Auckland Council gave consent to the Marina Developers to build a Marina in Kennedy Point, Waiheke Island. A total of 169 submissions were received. Of these, 136 opposed the application (partially or in full), 29 supported the proposal with 4 submissions listed as neutral.
We have been through mediation to try and reach an agreement with the Marina Developers. None of our requests to reduce the size or remove the floating carpark areas was attended to.
The appeal process is well underway - scheduled for hearing at the Environment Court in February 2018.
THE TARGET
We estimate that we need to raise a further $100,000 with $125,000 raised to date. So we have a big target, we need assistance.
