Fundraising progress
23 January 2018Happy new year!
2018 is going to be a monumental year for the jetty because we've started fundraising in earnest.
We launched a 'sponsor a plank' appeal just before Christmas where donations of $500 or more will be recognised with a marine-grade stainless steel plaque, etched with the donor's name or short message, on "their plank" on the new jetty. With 1500 planks on the jetty, this could raise up to $750,000.
We are also applying for 3 major grants this year. This will potentially raise another $900,000.
The Council have already committed $535,000, but we will be pitching to them to commit to match us dollar-for-dollar in April when they ask for feedback on their long-term plan review. We have the support of deputy mayor, Andrew Turner.
If all three things are successful, then we will have reached the funding needed to rebuild the jetty and it will be all systems go!
We're getting some great publicity next week (29 January) for our sponsor a plank campaign - there will be an article about our journey to save the jetty in New Zealand Women's weekly.
If you haven't sponsored a plank but would like to, I've tried to make it as painless as possible: http://www.savethejetty.org/sponsor-a-plank
Don't forget that the 33% tax credit applies to donations to our charitable Trust, so once the IRD have "paid" their 33% by refunding your tax, the cost to you is $335.

Welcome to The Year of the Jetty!
