Explaining Shane's story about his battle with cancer and fundraising for funneral costs and support for him and his family.

Wellington

Hi everyone Hailey here, Shane's partner. Shane and I have been together for 10 years and we have three beautiful children. I tried my best to make a long story short but this journey has been so hard I did try my best.

Shane’s battle with Cancer started on March 17th 2018 (a day before his 36th birthday) he was picked up from home by ambulance with severe pain and later that night he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He then spent his birthday in Wellington hospital running tests, scans and planning a future treatment plan.

From March 2018 throughout the whole year he had several rounds of chemotherapy (multiple cycles) including two stem cell transplants. Months and months of chemo in and out of the ward. While he was under going treatment he also lost his Nan to cancer. They were both on the same level at wellington hospital. It was a sad time he only just met some of his whanau through his nans passing.

Three stem cell transplants was the plan for Shane but oncology changed it to two as they thought it was too much on his body. The side affects really took a toll he looked, felt and was generally just really sick.

Couple months after recovering from the chemotherapy things were looking hopeful. His hair started growing back he had more energy and felt better within himself.

Feb 2019 Shane was rushed back into wellington hospital with major headaches. Only to find out the cancer had spread to mulitple parts of his brain. Brain surgery was needed to remove the tumors. Surgery was scary because it took longer than expected and not all tumors could be removed so they followed the operation with more treatment of Radiotherapy (Radiation).

After over a year of different treatment plans of chemotheraphy, stem cell transplants, Brain surgery and Radiation we were told this cancer would be terminal as it continued to grow on his brain and spread throughout other places in the body. There wasn't any other treatment options available. Only delay the enviable.

June 2019 Shane then lost his father also to cancer and then the following week he then lost his mother to unknown causes due to diabetes.

This hit him hard losing both of his parents within a short time and knowing he was dying aswell. Trying to cope with it all was the biggest struggle for all of us.

October 2019 Shane has now suffered a stroke and is paralyzed on the left side of his body. He has a brain bleed caused by the growth of a brain tumor and things are just not looking to good. We have been tpld he doesn't have long now😭

This is the longest hardest battle we have ever been through and its so hard watching a loved one suffer over and over again. It is so heartbreaking knowing the end is near and me and my children will miss their father everyday. We have had a whole decade together and I dont know how I will be without him?

Even tho we knew this time was coming we were still not prepared for it. Being out of work the whole time he was sick we barely made ends meet. Didn't have extra cash to put away and save for times like this. So please we ask for any help and support we could get. Every little bit helps and we would be truely grateful❤
