After losing their son Eli, 3 failed IVF transfers and a miscarriage the only remaining option for Soph and Nicky is surrogacy...

"Our journey to start a family has been a long one. One that we haven’t always shared. Mainly because I struggle to find the right words and the pain is almost indescribable. Five.. nearly six years of treatment, numerous appointments sitting across the desk from different specialists, thousands of kms travelled, countless tests, a million needles, surgeries and drugs. Losing our precious Eli, 3 failed transfers, a miscarriage, now we start our journey with a beautiful soul with a helpful heart that wants to help give us our greatest gift..."
As a friend of Sophie's, I've struggled to get this Give A Little page up and running with the fear of not doing them or their story justice. How do you put so much heartbreak, grief and trauma onto one page in the hope that as a community we can can help them out?
Sophie was first diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2010 at the age of 21, her then new boyfriend Nicky was there for the roller coaster ride of chemotherapy to follow and Sophie showed cancer who was boss. Then at the end of 2012 just after Sophie and Nicky’s spent one of their happiest moments together getting married, Sophie was diagnosed with cervical cancer and underwent surgery. Kicking cancers ass for the second time Sophie and Nicky began their complicated journey to begin their much wanted family.
After many surgeries and IVF in 2015 they became pregnant with their miracle baby Eli. Heartbreakingly at 22 weeks, Sophie’s waters broke prematurely and after an agonising week of trying to keep Eli in the womb, he was born on February 28 2016 breathing for a precious few moments before passing away in the loving arms of his Mum and Dad.
Now Sophie and Nicky journey of surrogacy has begun. The laws and rules around surrogacy are huge and subsequently also very costly. The first stage of the surrogacy journey is for Sophie and Nicky to have their case heard by the ethics committee and then a round of IVF where their fertilised egg can be implanted in their surrogate
If you don't know Sophie and Nicky, here is what you need to know...
- They are both incredibly generous and would do anything for anyone at the drop of a hat
- They are two of the most resilient and determined people I know
- Soph will take the positive out of every situation and challenge she faces
- Nicky is passionate about his role in the community as a Police Officer and would give anyone the shirt off his back
- Soph has an infectious smile and laugh that lights up the room
- Soph is a health nut, takes incredible care of herself and Nicky and inspires those around her to put their holistic health first too
-They both love children and children love them. Soph works with kids everyday working at her local Preschool
-This pair deserve happiness and I know will make the best parent's! This rainbow baby is going to be one lucky human being!
They've got one last option to complete their wee fam, surrogacy. Not only will contributing to their Give A Little page relieve financial pressure but also the emotional, mental and spiritual stress that's involved with this whole process and journey. It will be one less thing for them to worry about and they will be able to put their time and energy into the other areas that need focus to get them through such a difficult time.
If you're in the position to support Soph and Nicky financially and emotionally throughout their surrogacy journey that they so desperately deserve, myself, their families and both of them would be incredibly appreciative.
Thank you for everyone showing up for Soph, Nicky, Eli and their rainbow baby.
Every single donation, message of support and positive thought is appreciated. Thank you for contributing.
Supportive friend in awe of these two incredible humans and their resilience.
All funds will go towards the surrogacy process and journey including counselling sessions, lawyers fee, surrogate fees, IVF fees etc. Any surplus funds will be donated to Heartfelt NZ a New Zealand volunteer organisation.
