Thanks to a small but energetic group of FOW Volunteers plants numbers have been increasing in our Nursery with the propagation of Dianella nigra, Melicytus ramiflorus (Māhoe), Veronica (Hebe), Phormium tenax (Flax), Cordyline australis (Cabbage Tree) and other native plants.

Did you know that for several years we were supplied with free plants from the Mayors Million Trees Programme which ceased with the election of a new Mayor. Annually we received around 20,000 native plants which went into various restoration sites around the Whau River. Now we need to fund our own plants. To achieve this plants can cost on the average $5 or more from a nursery and then we have the costs of holding the plants and preparing sites for planting. The simplest long term solution is to propagate and grow our own for use on various restoration sites around the Whau River. So 20,000 plants will cost some where in the vicinity of $100,000 to buy but are less if we grow them with Volunteer support. So help out and sponsor a plant now.
