Blake (41) is fighting for his life with stage-4 cancer. Help him access treatment not funded in NZ and give him more time with family!
Manurewa, Auckland
Our brother Blake Wong-Ling (41) has spent his life lifting others—today we urgently need to lift him.
Only weeks ago Blake & his family were given devastating news: stage-4 gastric cancer now in his liver & lymph nodes. Without urgent immunotherapy, doctors say he may have weeks at worst, months at best.
Blake has begun chemotherapy at Auckland Hospital, but specialists say immunotherapy offers his best chance. Sadly it is not funded in NZ & must be accessed privately.
Insurance will cover $60,000, but his family must raise $55,000 more.
Blake carries heritage from Samoa, Niue, Tonga & China, with deep roots across the Pacific & Aotearoa. He is a loving husband to Leilana, a devoted son & brother, a proud cousin & the kind of uncle every child adores.
For decades Blake has been someone people turn to—mentoring young people, guiding families & walking beside communities through life’s sacred moments. Through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served an honourable mission in Adelaide & later as Bishop in Ōtara, and as a celebrant & MC has helped many couples begin their married lives.
Blake & Leilana quietly show up when others need help. Asking for support does not come easily to them.
So today, we ask on their behalf.
Every donation will help Blake access treatment to give him more time with Leilana, his family & community.
Please help give Blake more time.
If you cannot donate, please share this page & keep Blake in prayer.
Fa’afetai tele lava for your love & support.
Leilana is our beloved first cousin and the eldest granddaughter in our family. Blake, her husband, is not just a cousin-in-law — he is truly our cousin in love. We’re organising this page as a family to support them during this incredibly difficult time.
Funds will help cover the cost of life-saving immunotherapy treatment for Blake, which is not funded in New Zealand. This treatment offers his best chance of slowing the cancer and giving him more precious time with his wife, family, and loved ones.
Thank you for the generosity you showed in supporting Blake Wong-Ling 19 April 2026
Dear Friend,
Because of your kindness, the full amount needed for Blake’s treatment was raised. That support meant Blake & his family could pursue every possible option with hope & dignity. Your willingness to stand with them during such a difficult time will never be forgotten.
Blake underwent chemotherapy & started immunotherapy. His specialists believed the treatment offered real hope & did not expect the cancer to spread as quickly as it did.
Sadly, despite these efforts, Blake passed away peacefully, surrounded by those he loved. Yesterday, we laid him to rest.
Blake was a husband, son, brother, bishop, & mentor who quietly invested his time & care into others. The response over the past weeks reflected the life he lived & the impact he had on his community.
Before he passed, Blake decided the funds raised for his treatment should continue helping others.
In honour of his wishes, the funds will be shared between the ASB Polyfest leaders’ group, the PILOT (Pacific Island Leaders Of Tomorrow) programme, the NZ Cancer Society, & Hospice NZ, which cared for him in his final days.
Your support gave Blake every chance to fight, and it will now continue supporting causes & communities that mattered deeply to him.
On behalf of Leilana, Blake’s family & our family, thank you for your generosity, prayers & encouragement during this time. It brought real comfort to know that so many people cared for Blake & stood beside his family.
With sincere gratitude,
Teuila x
