Stop Nine Storey Apartments in Stonefields

$11,150 of $25,000 goal
Given by 79 generous donors in 8 weeks

Say NO to high rise apartments in Stonefields blocking views of Mount Wellington, impacting on the heritage trail and creating an eye sore.

Auckland

Todd Property have lodged a consent application to build nine storey apartments in the south western corner of Stonefields. The apartments are planned for nine storeys and significantly exceed the permitted height limits for the area.

The buildings will block views from and of the heritage trail (currently being built) which will eventually provide a unique and valuable recreational resource for all Aucklanders.

These blocks of apartments are only the start with more blocks planned further to the north. If these are allowed to be built to nine storeys the rest are likely to follow suit. Creating a wall of urban development screening out the unique working face of the quarry.

A hearing is planned for 22nd to 24th February 2017. With Council officers recommending the application be declined there is a good chance the hearings commissioners will not let this go ahead. But they need to hear from the community and we need to present our best case.

Stonefields Lobby Group's involvement (page creator)

We have established the Stonefields Lobby Group to ensure the community has an organised voice to raise its concerns about unsightly and over height development in the area.

Use of funds

Funds raised will be used for Legal representation and expert witnesses at the resource consent hearing. We have engaged a lawyer to represent the lobby group as well as other experts. The fees will cover their time to prepare for the hearing and attend the hearing to provide representation and present evidence. The costs are only to the completion of the hearing and do not include any costs should we need to appeal at the Environment Court.

No appeal!! Celebratory drink tonight  12 April 2017

Well the journey is at an end. As you may already know, Todd Property announced that they would not appeal the decision in the environment court.

This is essentially the end of this chapter of what has been an incredibly long yet intense effort.

On the 1st April 2016, Todd Property informed the community of this resource consent application. There was disbelief in the neighbourhood that Todd would push something like this onto the residents - design that did not show a lot of thought towards it's residents and a contradiction to what had originally been planned.

Almost a year to the day we have the opportunity to get this area back to what it was supposed to be.

Stonefields is one of the most unique, neighbourly suburbs in Auckland. A place where you can get to know your neighbour again and feel part of something. We want this to continue.

With the decision now final, and our money target achieved (ex GST) to pay our unbelievable professionals, (thank you all for your generosity) we would like to CELEBRATE and say THANK YOU to all of those who supported this cause.

We will be having a couple of drinks at the SPEIGHTS ALE HOUSE Thursday night 13th at 7:30. This will give us all the opportunity for a bit of a face-to-face and pat-on-the-back time

We hope to see you there

Matt, David, Bill, Karl, Catherine, John, Judy, Elaine
