Our Community Care Centre must move, and we’re working hard to create a new home that will continue supporting our community.
Twizel, Canterbury
For more than 30 years, the Twizel Community Care Centre has been a lifeline for one of New Zealand’s most remote communities. Every weekday, our team opens the door to anyone who needs help. We offer a warm space, a listening ear, support with food or heating, guidance accessing services, or transport to essential medical appointments.
We are here for elderly residents living alone, for families struggling to make ends meet, for people coping with illness, and for those who simply need someone to talk to. We host groups, connect people to government services, support community clubs, and serve thousands every year.
We are working urgently to establish a new Community Hub on Mackenzie Drive and have officially received our resource consent from the Mackenzie District Council. We have also already raised over $4,000 through our last Givealittle page. The hub will be the new home of the Twizel Community Care Centre, the Twizel Library, Twizel Radio, and Twizel Promotions. We have begun the process, but we cannot do this alone.
We need help with the costs of relocating, building a suitable building, and preparing the site. Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to keeping these vital services operating.
This project is a chance to build something that truly reflects who we are: a resilient, caring, tightly connected community.
If you can’t give financially, please share our story.
Together, we can build a home for caring for today, for tomorrow, and for generations to come.
The purpose of the Trust, as set out in the Charitable Trust Deed is to coordinate responses and provide assistance with community health and welfare needs. The trust is dedicated to ensure access to health and welfare agencies for the Twizel community.
Funds will help relocate and set up a new Community Hub, covering building purchase, transport, site works, utilities, and fit-out, so we can continue providing vital support, wellbeing services, and community space for Twizel residents.
