Support for Ollie’s family while in Starship

12 days ago, Ollie (3) became very unwell.

What started out as gastro, quickly turned into a very serious condition called Haemolytic Uremic Syndrome.

He went into renal failure. He was transferred from Taranaki to Starship and had surgery to insert his catheter for dialysis. We are unsure how long he will require dialysis.

Tragically, our little Ollie suffered a brain event. He was non-responsive to pain, his surroundings, and lost his movement. An MRI showed he has abnormal masses in his brain.

Words can’t express the fear of losing Ollie. We are so blessed for the quick actions of the Starship team and the medication which has surpressed his immune system which will help his recovery.

Ollie still has a long road ahead of him. His body is working so hard and he is making small improvements daily. He is now able to move slightly, has been able to speak a few words, and he is showing signs of understanding. We are hopeful he will fully recover.

We have created this Givealittle to ease the financial pressure while Ollie is in Starship Hospital. Hannah, Matt, & Luke are gratefully able to stay in Ronald McDonald but there are additional food costs and other small expenses they don’t usually have which are adding to the pressure. We know times are tough but if you have even a spare $1 we would be eternally grateful.
