Let’s show Kelly that we’re all here for her as she makes her way through cancer treatment.
Baylys Beach, Northland
In the space of two short and extremely stressful weeks Kelly has gone from living her best life with Sam and their gorgeous twins, to beginning life-saving chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
Her diagnosis of triple-negative breast cancer is a scary one; it is an aggressive, rapid growing disease that has fewer treatment options than the other types of breast cancer. It has already spread to her lymph nodes and she requires an equally aggressive regimen to combat it. She will be receiving weekly chemotherapy and a vital immunotherapy drug called Keytruda that is not funded by Pharmac. She will not be able to work while she is undergoing the 9 month treatment, and faces the prospect of surgery down the track.
This page is here so her friends and relatives can show her how much we love and support her. Funds raised will go towards paying for the unfunded drug and to help with the large financial burden her and Sam now face, raising two babies on one part-time income while managing the difficulties of cancer treatment.
Kelly, you and Sam are not alone on this terrifying journey, you’ve got this! Just a bump in the road, we are all cheering for you.
Sarah her sister. I love you Kelly
Funds will be used for paying for chemotherapy, petrol to get to the treatment centre, other expenses related to her treatment and if possible, day to day expenses Kelly won’t be able to help with like formula, food and nappies for the babies etc.
Cancer who? 26 October 2023
So sorry with how long it has been since my last update, the last 3 months have been incredibly difficult to say the least! I switched over to some new chemo drugs for the last 4 rounds and my body did not handle them well, with frequent low blood counts and a few rounds in hospital, I was feeling pretty low and tired and to be honest very much over the whole thing. We were all very eager for that last round of chemo in mid September to be done. My body held up ok thankfully and I was able to get surgery done last week to finally get rid of the problem areas and see how well the treatment has gone.
Yesterday we got the results and the best news imaginable, that my cancer has for all sense and purposes, been cured! It is an outcome that I was hoping like hell for, but not expecting this early, when I haven’t had radiation yet. Lots of tears were shed and last night we had a couple of cheeky bubbles to celebrate.
The last 6 months were harder than I ever could have imagined and at times I really didn’t know how I would get through. I’m not sure I could have without the support of my incredible partner, family, friends, and children, who kept me from losing track of who I am and kept me looking forward.
I also want to thank every single one of you who donated to help fund my treatment. Without your help, it would have been very difficult to get all of the rounds that I needed, and I am confident they have saved my life, so from both myself and Sam, thank you all very much xx
