Support for Nicky, Mia and whānau
Kelson, Lower Hutt
Life sometimes throws us nasty curve balls and that's what has happened to our awesome Kelson School office administrator and sports co-ordinator, Nicky Harrison and her whānau.
Recently Nicky's daughter Mia (17 years old) had some shoulder pain and after a few tests she was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma cancer. Treatment is not available in Wellington so Nicky and Mia have had to travel to Christchurch for treatment and they will remain there for some time.
Nicky has done a lot for our School community and tamariki for many years and we know that there will be people out there wanting to support their situation so we encourage you to donate online.
Our thoughts and aroha are with Nicky, Mia and whānau at this time.
We have known Nicky for a number of years through the school, she is a friend.
Travel and Accommodation costs for whānau as treatment is only available in Christchurch and whanau live in Wellington
Update Part 2 8 August 2023
On Wednesday she had surgery to remove the bone the tumour was in and her shoulder was reconstructed with metal. A 9 hr surgery! She is recovering well, better than the surgeon expected her to! In a few weeks time she will start chemotherapy again. This time it will be 12 rounds over 17 weeks. Still a long road ahead! It is hard being away from home and away from our support network but the team here at Christchurch Hospital have been amazing! Mia is being really positive and is determined to beat this! Much love Nicky x
