Support our swimmers as they swim as many laps as they can to help raise funds for our local swimming club.
Port Chalmers, Otago
Our annual Swimathon fundraiser is coming up on Sunday 24 November (2pm to 4pm) and we need all of you to help us make it a wonderful event.
It’s important to us to offer a FUNdraiser that involves swimming – and this one definitely delivers.
*** You are welcome to put the name/s of the swimmers you are supporting in your comment***
Our young swimmers will be given 30 minutes to swim as many widths as they can (our beginner swimmers will be helped and will use kick boards); then our older swimmers will be given an hour to swim as many lengths as they can. Each swimmer will ask friends and whanau to sponsor them per lap up to a maximum (or offer a one-off donation). This event encourages swimming, allows swimmers to push themselves, and is a lot of fun!
Teaching kids to swim is vitally important – last year New Zealand experienced its highest annual drowning fatalities in a decade – and our club is doing its bit to make sure our local kids can swim.
The funds we raise from the Swimathon will go towards keeping our equipment up-to-date and the costs of running the club.
Thanks so much for your support!
All the funds raised will be used to purchase new equipment for the club and to assist with the running costs for the season.
Swimathon success 27 November 2024
Ka rawe to all the swimmers who joined us for the Swimathon on Sunday.
We had 15 width swimmers and 10 length swimmers. Everyone did so well. It was so inspiring to watch the children, teenagers and adults swim lap after lap, taking breaks when needed and then going again. Amazing!
Huge thanks again goes to our sponsors: Port To Port Cruises And Wildlife Tours, Hamish McDonald - Cutlers Real Estate, Moana Road, Jocelyn Macknight, Hazel Scoles, Four Square Port Chalmers and Dunedin Pools. The children loved the spot prizes!
Thanks to everyone who helped on the day by getting in the water to assist the width swimmers, counting laps for your children, preparing certificates, taking registrations and being all round super encouraging!
Even though we strongly encourage the children to view the event as a personal challenge (rather than a race against others) it's fun to offer cash incentives for those who really like to push themselves. Here's a list of our cash prize winners with the number of laps they swam:
Widths:
Stan Dick $15 (100 laps)
Leevi Andrew $10 (96 laps)
Olivia Moir $5 (69 laps)
Lengths:
Fletcher McCall $50 (117 laps)
Mathilda McCall $20 (94 laps)
Olivia Dick $10 (90 laps)
Thanks for your support!
