Introducing The Ima Project: Illuminating Hope
Meet Susan and Ian, a quintessential Kiwi family in New Zealand's South Island. Ian, a true country boy, cherished the rolling hills, hunting, and fishing.
But beneath this serene landscape, a decade-long silent struggle unfolded. Ian, a dedicated police officer, silently battled PTSD, leaving scars on his marriage and home.
Tragically, Ian's battle took a devastating turn, highlighting the pressing need for better responses to police officer suicides within the New Zealand Police Service.
The Ima Project is our unwavering response, a beacon of hope amid profound loss.
This issue extends beyond the NZ Police; it's a societal concern. Who will care for us if we neglect our police?
Often, it's women who seek help for their loved ones. The Ima Project empowers and assists women connected to police officers, whether mothers, widows, wives, or sisters – pillars of our society.
Your contribution to this campaign supports families like Susan and Ian's, providing:
🔵 Legal assistance for women after a suicide, navigating complex coroner investigations.
🔵 Comprehensive understanding of PTSD's effects on households for coroners.
🔵 Legal aid for those seeking ACC support for PTSD.
🔵 Employment law support for police officers facing investigations and career transitions.
Join us. Stand with us. Illuminate hope through The Ema Project. Together, we make a difference. 💙 #EmaProject #SupportOurPolice
We help New Zealand police officers and their families when someone gets hurt on the job—especially with mental injuries like PTSD.
Our work focuses on trauma, stress, and the long-term impacts of police service. We also help officers who have physical injuries.
We use laws like the Health and Safety at Work Act, Privacy Act, Accident Compensation Act, and the Employment Relations Act to protect their rights. This means we can guide injured police through the system—making sure they get the help and respect they deserve.
We are fully independent. We don’t get any money from the government. That means we can speak up, tell the truth, and stand by police families when others won’t.
We’re also a DPO—Disabled People’s Organisation—and follow the UN rules (called the UNCRPD) to make sure no one is left out, ignored, or treated unfairly.
Our goal is clear: no more police suicides. Ever.
Funds will primarily support legal aid for families securing ACC PTSD diagnoses, aiding in coroner cases, and providing employment law assistance.
