Sarah's Tale: Hope for New Zealand's Police
Officer Sarah was an emblem of courage for her town. Yet, beneath the badge, the weight of traumatic incidents, fears, and daily stresses began to erode her spirit. Nights became restless, and memories from duty often haunted her days. She felt isolated, fearing that her vulnerabilities would be perceived as weakness.
That's when the Foundation stepped in.
Upon learning about Sarah's struggles, we quickly connected her with specialists who understood the unique challenges faced by police personnel. Through tailored programmes, she met others, realising she wasn't alone. Our resources gave her children insights into their mother's world, aiding their understanding and emotional well-being.
The Foundation's vision of Zero suicide struck a chord. Sarah knew many colleagues faced the same silent battles. Today, rejuvenated, Sarah has become a beacon for others, dismantling the barriers of silence.
Your contribution ensures that many more like Sarah find hope and support. Let's stand by our nation's bravest, ensuring a resilient and robust police force.
Support today. Empower our heroes. Build a brighter future.
We help New Zealand police officers and their families when someone gets hurt on the job—especially with mental injuries like PTSD.
Our work focuses on trauma, stress, and the long-term impacts of police service. We also help officers who have physical injuries.
We use laws like the Health and Safety at Work Act, Privacy Act, Accident Compensation Act, and the Employment Relations Act to protect their rights. This means we can guide injured police through the system—making sure they get the help and respect they deserve.
We are fully independent. We don’t get any money from the government. That means we can speak up, tell the truth, and stand by police families when others won’t.
We’re also a DPO—Disabled People’s Organisation—and follow the UN rules (called the UNCRPD) to make sure no one is left out, ignored, or treated unfairly.
Our goal is clear: no more police suicides. Ever.

We’re now a DPO – and raising the voices of police workers!
Thanks to your support, The Foundation is now officially recognised as a Disabled People’s Organisation (DPO). This milestone enables us to bring the lived experiences of mentally injured police workers directly to government under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
Our message is clear: police workers deserve dignity, justice, and tailored mental health support. We’re advocating for systemic change – from ACC reform to early intervention through our Ima Project.
