Tautoko Marianne help her fur-baby Joey get the quality of life he deserves by getting his 2nd knee surgery.
Auckland
Joey is the sweetest rescue pup who I adopted at 8 weeks old in 2021. Joey is special — he loves to sing, but walking made him anxious and never knew why.
Then in Jan ‘23: Joey was diagnosed with medial patella luxation, a condition that most commonly affect dogs of smaller breed. Joey is 18m/o at 37kg... He grew & his kneecaps never settled in their sockets causing him immense pain.
+ Feb: CT scan ($3.4K)
+ Mar: LEFT knee surgery ($8.5K) & he’s recovering well!
+ Apr 26, '23: He needs his RIGHT knee surgery (approx. $7.5K to $8.2K)
+ Physio & rehab.
Approx. overall cost = $20.5K total excl. of other vet bills and meds costs.
This financial stress is no joke. No upfront payment means no surgery. Joey is a puppy with so many years ahead of him discovering how amazing it is to walk & run again, & get all the cuddles he deserves and to be well.
Being on TV means I’m rich, right? No. But it does make me privileged to have a reliable income for the period I am contracted & it enables me to do pro-bono & voluntary roles for my community, Arts industry & union. I am fortunate that my living costs are covered & I am eligible a vet-finance loan of $15K for Joey. We're a few grand short and I don't have the luxury of having a disposable $20k for all of Joey’s unexpected costs so I need help.
PS. “Do you have pet insurance?” most ask. Of course! Can they help? To an extent… (& this korero is for another space). They have capped support at $2.3K per annum for this specific condition.
I am Joey's Mama.
I respect everyone's levels of hardship, if you can give your kind donations will be fully spent on Joey: his 2nd knee (medial luxation patella) surgery, post-op care, medical costs.
Joey has graduated from hydrotherapy! 15 June 2024
Kia ora friends and family,
It’s been 15 months since Joey’s 2nd surgery, the surgery you all financially helped us get through! Joey has graduated from all his post surgery therapy and finished his last hydrotherapy session today.
He’s made the most incredible progress with his physical abilities and movements these past 15 months and we couldn’t have done it without your aroha. There truly aren’t enough words for us to express just how grateful we are to have everyone’s generosity and support. We know Joey is only as strong as he is now because you all showed up for us in our time of need. Thank you, dakal a salámat, e mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. 💛🐕
