Kia Orana from the sunny Cook Islands. Our National Oe Vaka outrigger canoeing squad needs your help!
Nationwide
In July 2015, we take on the best of the Pacific in outrigger canoeing in search for gold, at the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.
Still glowing from the success and excitement of Vaka Eiva 2014, the Cook Islands annual paddling festival, our local paddlers are more determined than ever to improve on their one silver and two bronze medal placing’s at the previous 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia. Please help us get there!
Our squad of potential paddlers is made up of experienced paddlers with years of competition and accolade, as well as junior paddlers who have excelled in the sport of outrigger canoeing in just a short space of time. At this year’s Games the final team, consisting of 7 female paddlers and 7 male paddlers, will contest the 30km V6 marathon race, as well as the 500m & 1500m sprint races. From this pool of paddlers, one male paddler and one female paddler will be selected for the single V1 disciplines, 15km and 500m races.
To be able to do this, Team Oe Vaka need to raise $4000 per athlete, covering airfares, accommodation and expenses during competition. For all our potential paddlers this means working even harder off the water to fundraise in order to achieve this goal. As busy parents, students, business people and dedicated members of the community, this is not an easy task, but we remain positive and hopeful and committed to giving everything we have to represent the Cook Islands proudly in the sport we love.
Every little bit helps and every single dollar will go to Team Oe Vaka to help fund its challenge for the 2015 Pacific Games.
Join us and help support the Cook Islands Oe Vaka team get to the Pacific Games.
Kia Manuia,
Team Oe Vaka Paddlers
