“Un pueblo en el agua que pone mis pier en la tierra” Notable “A town on the water that keeps my feet on the ground” Remarkable

Hamilton Lake, Hamilton

We invite you to join us in supporting **Nueva Venecia**, Community of palafitos—houses on stilts— on the waters of the Magdalena department in Colombia. For over 200 years this community has built its life facing isolation and limited opportunities as successive governments overlook their needs.

Our goals:

- Provide **children’s and youth books** for the only library, giving young minds access to stories, knowledge, and hope for a brighter future.

- Restore the stunning **wall paintings** on two palafito houses, that were painted by my brother, and have degraded over the last few years

We will be purchasing the books in Bogota, Colombia and New Zealand so the library can have a selection of both English and Spanish children's books. As we have purchased and will purchase a lot of books, the fees to transport them are significant and include boat & bus fees, and petrol for the boat.

Nueva Venecia is close to my ❤️ —inspired by my brother’s memories of its beauty and the remarkable perseverance of its people. He taught me that sometimes, it takes a place on water to truly put our feet on the ground.

Your support—big or small—will bring opportunity, color, and possibility to a community that deserves to be seen.
