Let's fly a banner of aroha and thanks through the skies to acknowledge Auckland's role in the pandemic.
Auckland has had it hard - more lockdowns, more cases, and a lot of isolation as the current Covid-19 restrictions on the city continues.
We're all tired and frustrated, but it's even harder for those living in Auckland. They've been on New Zealand's frontline from the beginning, and they're struggling. Yes - there have been a few cases of rule breakers, but I believe that the vast majority have played to the rules, stayed home and protected us all - for a long time.
Let's thank them with a banner streaming through the skies, saluting their mahi by locking down, staying home and getting a little (or very) stir-crazy. It's a bit of feel-good for us, and a lot of feel-good for them to be seen and acknowledged.
The banner will say (in big 5 foot red letters):
KIA ORA RAWA ATU - THANKS AUCKLAND!
This probably the first time Te Reo Māori will fly on a banner through the skies.
Let's all contribute to thank Auckland! This fundraiser will cover at least 2 hours of flying over Auckland to thank our team for doing the hard yards. Additional funds will go to additional time in the sky.
And a BIG THANK YOU to Air Bubble Advertising for contributing the assembly of the banner! you guys are awesome!
Disclaimer: The fundraiser has changed from all-or-nothing to a straight fundraiser, due to Airbubble's support. I will not financially benefit from this in any way - just warm fuzzies from the support of like-minded kiwis!
I'm just a member of the team of five million, asking fellow like-minded kiwis to help out. I have friends and relatives in Auckland, but this is for everyone.
This is a fundraiser to cover 2 hours of flying over Auckland to thank our team for doing the hard yards. Additional funds will go to additional time in the sky so even more people will see!
We did it! 22 November 2021
Kia ora team, WE DID IT! Thank you for being a believer and a helper, I am humbled by your support. I had some great feedback, including a stranger who sought us out and reached out to say they got a lump in their throat and thank you for our support. I still believe that they are more deserving recipients of our thanks and aroha.
Attached is a photo of the banner in flight - it's good quality so you can zoom in and read the words. If you'd like a copy please send me a message via givealittle! Photo credit goes to my brother, Evan Thomas, who was dedicated enough to sit on a hill waiting for a good shot.
We are in strange and uncomfortable times, so today I am remembering the words of Mr Rogers, who repeated the wise words of his mother and said that in times of crisis, look for the helpers. You are one of the helpers. I am honoured to have your company. Thank you.
