Who are we and what is the Mongol Rally?
-Simply put we are a group of four morons from New Zealand that decided a great idea was take part in the Mongol Rally, the greatest motoring challenge in the world. This rally will see us thunder along 15,000 kilometers of road starting in London and finishing north of Mongolia in Ulan-Ude.
What's so challenging about that?
-Well just to keep it interesting there’s no set route, no backup and definitely no support; just us, our fellow adventurists and a tiny 1200cc that we bought with the spare change down the back of the couch.
So what is the rally actually about?
-The Mongol Rally is about getting lost, using our long neglected wits, placing one hell of a challenge in front of ourselves and raising shed loads of cash for charities that work to better people and the world as whole.
Wait what was that bit about charity?
-The entire rally is for Charity! Well actually 2 Charities, the Cool Earth Foundation (the official charity of the Mongol Rally) and also our chosen charity the Starship foundation. If you would like to contribute towards our Charity fundraising simply click the donate button and help us out!
So why those charities and what are they doing to make a difference?
-The Cool Earth Foundation is non-profit organisation that works alongside rain forest communities in Papa New Guinea and Peru to help halt deforestation and climate change. They do this by working closely with villages and local experts to better equip the communities to prevent illegal deforestation in their areas. In addition to this they also work with the communities to decide what they need most and how funds are spent – everything from clean water and new classrooms to improved coffee and cacao harvests to help the community even after they foundation has left.
-The Starship Foundation is a social-profit organisation in New Zealand that raises funds to provide world-class life saving healthcare for the 120,000 young patients that visit the Starship hospital every year! In addition to this they are also a major teaching centre that helps to provide family centered care to children and young people throughout New Zealand and the South Pacific.
-Overall we think that these are two great charities, one reflecting New Zealand's dedication and image of being clean and green, with the other supporting and aiding the nations youth specific health care services. that are well worth getting behind however if you want to help us directly, cruise over to our fundraising page and have a bit more of a read on the team and the challenge ahead. https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/the-captain-cooks
All money raised here will be split 50/50 between our two selected charities, The Starship Foundation and The Cool Earth Foundation
